About Sarah Pitsiulala Reaburn
Mom, Aunty, RN, RM, IBCLC
My name is Sarah Pitsiulala Reaburn and I am of Celtic and Slavic ancestry. I've lived in Kimmirut (NU), Inuvik (NWT), Sayward (VI), Nelson, Ulkatcho (Anahim Lake) and most recently spent a large chunk of time in Toronto and Vancouver for school and work.
I moved to Port Alberni in the spring of 2022 and have enjoyed working as a midwife and labor and delivery nurse here. I work primarily as a nurse in labour and delivery now, but decided to offer lactation consultation and education after hearing from families and community members that there was a need for that here in the beautiful Alberni Valley.
I am passionate about the difference that a supported pregnancy and post partum experience can make. Every family, pregnancy, child and post partum experience is unique.
Whether....
-
this is your first baby and you are wanting to prepare for feeding
-
you are adopting and wanting support to induce lactation...
-
you plan to co-feed with your partner and want support....
-
you are having a difficult time with breast/chest/bottle feeding
-
feeding is going well but you want to "tune up" your latch or check in about milk supply....
I feel confident we can work together to meet your feeding goals.

The world is sweeter when families are supported in their journeys of pregnancies, births and the important work of caring for children.
It is a great joy to be continually learning how to do this in relationship.

Our first first walk in the woods together- me and my son Pete.
Post partum is such a tender time. It is an honour to be involved in your pregancy, birth and or post partum care.
Asita imparting some final wisdom to Sarah at his discharge appointment at Lu'ma Health Centre.
"The amount of support that I feld during pregnancy was beyond my expectations.
I never felt any shame or pressured into anything that I didn't want to do. Would come back if I got pregnant again."

"Sarah R is amazing- we had not met prior to my baby's birth and she was on call that day. I could not be more grateful for the impeccable, loving care we received from her. She instantly put me at ease and was loving and calming during my quick labour and delivery. She provided us with stellar aftercare as well. I highly recommend Sarah R. for anyone wanting a midwife. "Sarah came to us as a gift- I had had 5 midwives throughout my pregnancy and just as I was going into labour she happened to be on call here in Port Alberni and delivered our baby girl seamlessly.
During the delivery she invited my husband to include any of his cultural practices - he got to sing a Heiltsuk lullaby to our baby as she came earthside- something we will never forget. With Sarah, we felt safe, we felt seen, and we felt ready.
She provided nurturing
postpartum care and
breastfeeding support.
She empowered me to
trust myself as a new
mom. We are eternally
grateful and we Highly
recommend her
services!"

"We loved having Sarah as our midwife! She has such a beautiful and caring spirit and she made us feel so comfortable bringing our baby earth side. As an Indigenous momma I'm so grateful Sarah was by my side and supported me so well through my pregnancy, postpartum and breastfeeding journey. She holds a special place in our family. It is clear she loves what she does as she goes above and beyond to provide such loving care and support to the families she works alongside." Jeanne, Mike and Baby Sky
